In the early morning hours of 3 June 1969 off the cost of Vietnam the USS Frank E.Evans (DD-754) was involved in a collision with the Australian Aircraft Carrier HMAS Melbourne (R-21). The EVANS was cut in two with a loss of 74 crew members. Only one body was recovered. The EVANS served gallantly during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
The collision occured outside the 12 mile combat zone off the coast of Vietnam therefore the names of the 74 sailors cannot be added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. This is an injustice and must be corrected. Please contact your U.S. Senator or Congressman to have the criteria changed so that these 74 heros may be honored by having their names added to THE WALL.
